China To Restructure May Golden Week. NOOOOO!

The chum has been in the water for a couple of years, and we all new that like the VAT rebate… our 3 weeks of holidays were soon coming to an end.

According to the Shanghai Daily report Draft: Drop May golden week the May Day holiday will get the ax from a full week to a day and some of the more traditional one day holidays will be brought back in…

I guess it makes sense to take it to the chopping block, given the shear numbers of people who go on vacation and the strain it puts on the transportation network…but it would have been nice to get another May trip in.. you know.. one for the road.

Golden week was originally started to increase domestic consumption. Perhaps the Economic policy makers believe that the no longer need it. Or they will change the policy to encourage people to go to the Olympic games.

I just wish they would start jacking up interest rates……

Interesting hypothesis Jay.. no travel next year to save up for the Olympics.

Perhaps they knwo the country is going to stop working for those 2 weeks anyway to support their favorite ping pong, badmiton, or diving athlete…. so, giveth in August.. and taketh away in May/ October..
