1. Lafarge’s second-phase waste heat generation project put into production
Dujiangyan Larfarge Cement Co., Ltd’s second-phase work, the waste heat generation project (3700t/d+3500t/d clinker production line and pure low-temperature waste heat power generation station engineering), is Chengdu’s key fund-support energy-saving drainage-reducing project. Of total investment of 7.101 million yuan, the project, after nearly half-year restoration and reconstruction, was successfully connected to the grids and generated electricity on March 20th. The successful operation of the project will greatly reduce the production cost of the company, and it is another important measure of Dujiangyan Lafarge Cement Co., Ltd for the protection of environment. Currently, the project generates electricity of 6,500 KWH averagely.

2. Over 50 clients first stationed in Chengdu Chuanhua Logistics Base
Chengdu’s key logistics project – Chengdu Chuanhua Logistics Base of total investment of 150 million yuan will soon be put into operation formally. The first batch, over 50 clients have officially entered into the Chengdu Chuanhua Logistics Base, learnt the journalist on March 31st.

It is introduced that the base is the first station in the western strategic arrangement of logistic industry of Chuanhua. The base has an area of 1,150 mou, and its first-phase plan has constructed a management service center, information exchanger center, traffic center and warehouse distribution center and auxiliary service zone, etc.; the number of logistics companies signed to settle in the base has exceeded 1,000.

3.Fortune Global 500 company DHL to establish business service center in Chengdu
After Accenture and Amazon, Chengdu welcomed its third investment project from Fortune Global 500 companies this year. On April 2nd, the global logistics giant DHL signed with Chengdu High-tech Zone an investment cooperation agreement, and will establish in the city the solely-owned DHL (Chengdu) Business Service Co., Ltd, and make it a comprehensive service-sharing center combined with such functions as financial shared service, customer service and human resources management in support of DHL’s co-invested companies in China.

4. Cornerstone laid for Chengdu MPS’s second-phase production and R&D center building
On April 2nd, the second-phase production and R&D center building of Chengdu MPS Limited Company constructed with added capital of 39 million US dollars by the global chip giant American Monolithic Power System was formally started by laying the cornerstone.
It is introduced that MPS since last year has put forward that within 5 years, it will build in Chengdu its headquarters in China, and by that time, the MPS Chengdu Company will become China’s biggest R&D center for simulated power integrated circuits.

5. Chengdu held “2009 forum of Chinese and foreign renowned principals”
On April 3rd, the “2009 Forum of Chinese and Foreign Renowned Principals” was held in Chengdu. About 200 guests including 28 foreign experts, scholars and principals from 8 countries such as the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Australia, South Africa, Norway, Finland and Singapore, as well as famous principals from domestic schools have participated in the event, and exchanged views and made discussions around the topic of “education innovation and cultivation of innovative talent”.

6. Education Ministry and Chengdu to co-build comprehensive reform pilot zone for overall urban and rural education
The Ministry of Education, Sichuan Provincial Government and Chengdu Municipal Government signed jointly on April 5th a cooperation agreement to build collaboratively the comprehensive reform pilot zone for overall urban and rural education. It is the first time for the Ministry of Education to work with a deputy provincial city to build such a pilot educational reform zone, whose super-conventional development education model will provide important experience for the integration of urban and rural education and post-disaster education reconstruction.

7. Investing 130 million yuan, ten-thousand-ton golden mushrooms factory settled in Dujiangyan
As one of the reconstruction projects of Shanghai in counterpart assistance to Dujiangyan, Shanghai Gaorong Food Co., Ltd, specializing in high-end vegetable production, processing and sales, is planning to invest 130 million yuan to build in Dujiangyan a factory with annual output of 10,800 tons of golden mushrooms, learnt the journalist on April 7th from the prefectural city. The project, upon completion, will become the biggest production base of golden mushrooms in Southwest China.

8. Sichuan published 2009 key project planning, sharply increased by 120.6 billion yuan this year
The 2009 Key Project Planning of Sichuan Province was published on April 9th. This year, Sichuan has listed key projects of 500, with total investment of 2159.1 billion yuan, and the planned investment in 2009 is 280.5 billion yuan. Compared with the annual investment plan of 159.9 billion yuan of 2008, a total of 120.6 billion yuan was added into this year’s Sichuan investment plan, in which 93 continued construction and newly started projects were also added.

9. Shuangliu and Jinjiang selected into fifth-batch China financial ecological cities
On April 11th, the 2009 Expert Conference on China Financial Situation Analysis, Prediction and Prospect and Fifth China Finance (Expert) Annual Meeting were held in Beijing. As a key scenario of the meeting, the approved list of the fifth-batch Chinese financial ecological cities (counties, districts) was finally disclosed. Chengdu’s Shuangliu county and Jinjiang district were both selected, with the former even ranking the first among all chosen cities (counties, districts).

10. Chengdu entered into Age of 3G

On April 13th, Chengdu’s telecommunication construction welcomed a new milestone – Sichuan Chengdu Branch of China Mobile formally announced to initiate the third-generation mobile communication service (TD-SCDMA) in Chengdu area, which hence marked the entry into the age of 3G of Chengdu’s public mobile communication.

11. Carrying capital, New York risk investment looking for projects in Chengdu
At the New York – Sichuan Investment and Financing Symposiumon held on April 7th, 6 investment organizations from the U.S. brought an exciting news: in considering globally the lesser impact on Chengdu by the financial crisis, a more stable market and huge industrial potential, they will regard Chengdu as a key region for seeking investment projects, and the new energy and new technology will be the fields most likely to be developed cooperatively by both sides.

12. Chengdu entered top ten conference tourism destination cities

At the Sixth China Exhibition and Festival Fortune Forum (CEFF) and Sixth China Exhibition and Festival Industry Award Presentation Ceremony recently sponsored by the Asian Events Fortune Forum, Chengdu swept with 5 top prizes involving city and figure, of which the two grand awards, the 2008 Best Exhibition City Management Award and China Top-ten Conference Tourism Destination City, were both bestowed to Chengdu, learnt the journalist on April 9th from the Chengdu Exhibition Industry Development Office.

13.China’s biggest denitration catalyst production base being constructed in Wuhou district
On April 10th, Chengdu Dongfang KWH Environmental Protection Catalysts Co., Ltd, subordinated to the Dongfang Electric Group, kicked off the second-phase construction and will invest 250 million yuan in Wuhou Industrial Park to build a national-first, world-second denitration catalyst production base. An important industrialization project of Chengdu in 2009, it will, after construction, promote the engineering of “Green Environmental Protection” with more high-quality environment-friendly catalysts.

14. Sichuan activity of China Ecological Tourism Year kicked off recently
Recently, the Sichuan activities of the “2009 China Ecological Tourism Year” were formally begun at the Tiangai Temple of Mengding Mountain, while at the same time the Fifth Mengding Mountain International Tea Culture and Tourist Festival was also unveiled.
It is reported that the ecological tourism in 2007 has become a new economic growth point in Sichuan’s tourism industry; in 2008, the province’s ecological tourism has received tourists of 75.1148 million, and realized total revenue of 11.496 billion yuan, of which, the natural protection zones received tourists of 1.8174 million, and forest parks 7.40 million.
