Expo Makeover: French Concession

While I largely have found the Expo related construction and makeover activities a noise driven annoyance, a recent walk along Fuxing Road uncovered a 2 square block area of villa redevelopments that were quite amazing. Literally rows of houses have been gutted out, and are in the process of being redeveloped for the Expo (confirmed by speaking to several construction workers), and when this area is completed later this year it is going to be a real site to see.

In the meantime, if you find yourself with a spare 30 minutes, I highly suggest going for a walk down the street to take a look for yourself… and perhaps bring more than your iPhone to take pictures with.

“Gutted out” is right! The renovations taking place are focused on building exteriors, alone. The interiors are being completely cleaned out – including, if you can believe it, original floors (which are then transported and sold for re-installation in new buildings). It’s a real tragedy, actually.

    Hey Adam

    Welcome back.

yeah. I met with a friend today who was with Canada Wood, and when I told him about the use of steel structures… it was like stabbing him in the heart.
