Leslie Chang, author of Factory Girls, gives a great TED presentation about life on the factory line in China, with a significant portion of the time spent on WHY labor flows from the countryside to the factory, WHAT these workers are expecting from their time on the line, and HOW they themselves see the work.

It is a narrative rarely told.

Which is why I recommend you take the 18 minutes to watch her speak, and then pick up her book.
