Whether for the manufacturing of chopsticks or rocking chairs, plywood or paper, the wood indsutry is growing at a torid pace. Imports of raw materials in the way of logs have soared from 3.2 million m3 in 1996 to over 29 million in 2005. At the same time, exports of plywood have soared to 670,000m3 in 2000 to 4.3 million in 2004, with Pizhou, Zhejiang producing the majority of the exported products.

Looking across the value chain, we put together this map to show how the wood industry is becoming one of China’s most important and successful.
