DHL:Getting agressive or HUGE account?

Tuesday, March 13, 2007 16:23

AMB properties just released that DHL has leased a whopping 1 million square feet of space in Shanghai (China’s most expensive industrial market).

Give the AMB CEO Hamid Moghadam is quoted saying

“Our long-time customer DHL came to us with a critical distribution facilities requirement — more than 1 million square feet of highly efficient logistics space in Shanghai up and running in just six months”

I can only surmise that they just landed an account. a BIG account… Wal-Mart sized maybe?

In the last few weeks, I have met with several logistics executives (DHL was not one), and the topic always comes back to own vs. lease. Build it and they wil come or lock in the contract and then find the space.

In the case of DHL, I think we know the answer to that, and congratulations are surely in order for the Account manager in charge.

Update: the space is not for Wal-MArt, but for one of the big FMCG manufacturers. Think toothpaste, soap, and diapers
