Overloaded Trucks in China

While this is good for a laugh, overloaded trucks are a big problem in China.

The economics are simple. The more you can load the more you make per load, and in china where mom and pop shops will move loads at cut throat prices, overloading for many is seen as one of the only ways they are able to survive.

The results (besides being bumpy roads and overturns) are that should you fail to take the entire truck’s capacity with your movement, you are risking damage and delays.

Excellent video. Anybody who has ever seen trucks transload at the border between China and Hong Kong SAR know that the way things are done in China are not the same way its done elsewhere!

    Very educational and great post.

    Hi Eric,

Long time! I was recently trying to log onto Freigh Dawg, but could not.. I think you have been caught in the GFW.

It is amazing how prvalent this is, and as someone who sends good around China, it can be frustrating as you wait for goods. Independent drivers will try to pack on as much as possble, so when we are not sending full trucks we know that is space available for someone else

    Hope all is well
