Who Says Guanxi Doesn’t Matter

About an hour ago, I received an email from good friend David Adams, who has been a commentor on this site for a while now, that simply said:

I just received confirmation that UPS SCS trucks are rolling for your transport request.

and it is just another example of where Guanxi is an amazing force.

The request was on behalf of an NGO in urgent need of logistics support to move goods from Beijing to Chengdu. One of several I have posted on Allroads and Crossroads.

It was a team effort, and besides David I would also like to thank the amazing efforts of Zhengwei (Plan) and Fanghui (Hands On Shanghai) whose constant communication with the partner enabled me to make the ask.

Guanxi is a network, a group of people, a dynamic that exists everywhere, and while many may try to play down its significance in Modern China, its power will not be lost on those in Chengdu who will soon be receiving much needed aid.

    Richard –

Easy work from my laptop. 100% of the credit and many thanks go to the people on the ground at UPS China and the local NGO’s who together must plan and implement relief logistics under difficult conditions.

    Thanks for the opportunity.
