There are a lot of varying opinions on China’s level of innovation.

Many externally to China would be quick to point out that China is a society lacking innovation or will copy anything rather than speak of China’s history of innovation (gun powder, paper, etc).

For me, I see both sides.  I see where you have 7 RMB DVDs, domestically branded cars that look exactly like a foreign brand, and products that are knocked off at the Canton Fair.  but, on the other end, I see Jon and his team, I see my friends developing new products, and I listen to what friends at design schools tell me.

things are changing, and it wasn’t until recently that the system for capturing and incubating raw innovation wasn’t in place.

So, with that, I will let Jon do the rest.  When starting up my own group, I sat within his office for 18 months, and all I can say was that I learned a lot by watching them.
