With so much going on in China, and only a limited amount of bandwidth, I have created this weekly post to highlight articles that I feel are (1) important, (2) relevant, and (3) interesting.

Pollution scare suspends Ya’an’s water supply and Pollution causes water shortage in Songjiang

A couple of severe water pollution incidents this week in China, one in Shanghai, that resulted in water supply disruptions. This is a situation that is unfortunately getting worse, and will impact industry as China’s environmental standards and enforcement are pushed higher.

Will Toy Factory Closures Shut Down Santa’s Workshop?

for the last 18 months we have been hearing of the pressure manufacturers  were under in China.  the appreciating RMB, VAT rebate reductions, and raw material costs have been going up… and that was before the confidence of US/ EU consumers hit bottom.Now, the closures of larger groups are being reported, and that means layoffs.

Reforming the agricultural system is a step that China cannot avoid.  In doing so, ensuring the rights to land and access to capital are going to be critical in the process.  This Youtube touches on some hurdles.. and some programs.. that will be put in going forward.
