Statistics from Jiangsu Transportation Department showed from January to August 2008 the throughput capacity of Suzhou Port (which represents the combined three ports including Changshu Port, Taicang Port and Zhangjiagang) reached 137 million tons, 16.81% increase over the same period of 2007. Changshu port, one of the three ports which were put together called Suzhou Port, witnessed a growth of 20.79%.


Bosideng, China’s biggest down apparel manufacturer headquartered in Changshu,joined hands with Greenwoods to open two stores in UK . It is the first batch of 100 outlets to be established in UK in the coming years. Bosideng was established by Mr. Gao Dekang , who first started an apparel business with a sewing team of 11 villagers in Changshu back in 1975 and has guided Bosideng to a apparel giant with 11000 employees.


Changshu Jianyuan Electronics supplied 100,000 pieces of electronic components for Shenzhou VII Spacewalk mission.

As a military designated enterprise, Jianyuan Electronics participated in the Shenzhou V and Shenzhou VI space mission and won applause from the industry.


Home textile big name Jiangsu Menglan Group cooperated with Institution of Computing Technology of Chinese Academic of Science in 2005 to establish Loongson CPU Industrialization Base in Changshu.

The series of Loongson processors are major scientific achievements supported by China 863 Project of Chinese Academic of Science. The homegrown processor is now ready for mass production. The success of Loongson CPU announced that China had won a place in the global arena of chip-core technology.


Suzhou Hengding started construction on 19th, September in Changshu Economic Development Zone. It has a total investment of RMB500 million to produce crankshaft for marine diesel engine.

Pilot production will start in 2010 followed by an RMB700 expansion. Reliance on crankshaft import will be greatly eased for domestic shipbuilding industry once the project is completed.


Changshu Customs is accelerating the upgrading of computer assisted management system to further boost efficiency. The new system will be launched by end of this December.

Changshu Export Processing Zone had filed an application with National Customs for bonded logistics function in 2007.

Once approved, trading and distribution will be accessible in Changshu Export Processing Zone.

UPM Changshu Paper Mill was listed as one of Chinese Top 500 Manufacturer in 2008. UPM Changshu is the biggest

Finnish investment in China. Its annual production capacity is 800,000 tons of fine paper. In 2007, UPM Changshu realized

a sales revenue of USD6.7 billion. UPM was also granted with a bunch of titles including “Top 500 Importers” “National

Environmental-Friendly Enterprise” etc.
